COVID-19 outbreak forces school in Blount County to shut down in-person learning
Southeastern School in Blount County is shutting down in-person learning after an outbreak of a COVID-19.
According to the superintendent, 14 students and three staff members have tested positive. The superintendent says 117 students and two staff members are in quarantine.
Blount County Schools released this statement on social media:
"Southeastern School will dismiss today, October 22, 2020 at 11:30am. This is in response to positive COVID-19 cases and a number of students who are in quarantine. All students will go to remote learning through November 2nd. The school will be closed to students and parents until face-to-face learning resumes on Tuesday, November 3rd.
"All basketball and football games scheduled for this week have been cancelled. The school lunchroom will serve meals to remote and blended students on Monday and Wednesday. Meals will be served at regularly scheduled times in car rider line fashion.
"All faculty and staff will work a regular schedule.
"We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause, but we feel this is for the safety of our students, parents, faculty and staff. Thank you."
