Meet Dr. Lucas Schnell, DO, One Of The Newest Members Of Orthopaedic & Spine Center Of The Rockies

Dr. Schnell a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon is one of the newest members of the Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies team.

LAFAYETTE, CO, USA, May 23, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Dr. Lucas Schnell was a student-athlete throughout high school and college, experiencing several orthopaedic sports medicine injuries that could have sidelined him.

“I had some great orthopaedic surgeons who got me back on the field and allowed me to go on and have a successful college career,” says Schnell, whose own athletic background allows him to connect with patients who are grappling with sports medicine injuries.

Dr. Schnell — a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in shoulder, sports medicine, joint replacement surgery and trauma — is one of the newest members of the Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies team.

Dr. Schnell graduated Summa Cum Laude from Dakota State University in 2003 when he earned his Bachelor of Science. He went on to get his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Kansas City University of Medicine in 2009, completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Blue Springs, Missouri in 2014.

While he was in residency, though, he realized how complex the shoulder is and it really drove him to want to do further study. He went on to pursue a shoulder and elbow reconstruction fellowship from St. Francis Shoulder Center in Columbus, Georgia in 2015.

Dr. Schnell has been a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon and Shoulder Specialist in the Denver area for the last seven years. He says he’s excited to be a part of the OCR team because of the top-notch reputation that the practice has in Northern Colorado and all the way down to the Denver metro area, especially when it comes to producing quality results and taking excellent care of patients.

The physicians and staff at OCR have a long legacy of giving back to the community by supporting community events, programs, and sports teams, which gives Schnell a chance to get back on the field through a partnership with St. Vrain Valley that supports student-athletes. OCR physicians are frequently on hand at games, and, student-athletes who are injured at school-sponsored sporting events or practices are eligible to receive a free evaluation of their injuries at the “Bump and Bruises” clinic.

Dr. Schnell says that what he loves most about being a physician, and specifically an orthopaedic surgeon, is the gratification he gets from making people better.

“I think we’re really blessed as orthopaedic surgeons to be able to have that impact on patients and truly help them get better and we really see the results of the work that we do,” he says.

Besides his Board Certification and Colorado Medical License, Dr. Schnell is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Rocky Vista University and has a Colorado Division of Worker’s Compensation Level 2 Accreditation. He has also presented at various conferences in the field of healthcare and orthopaedics and has a handful of publications surrounding his orthopaedic specialties. He is currently a member of the American Osteopathic Association of Orthopedics, American Osteopathic Association, and Colorado Medical Society.

As a major player in the success of the communities he’s lived in, Dr. Schnell has served as the team physician for various schools, the Midwest Classic PGA Tournament, and the Kansas City Comets Indoor Soccer Team. He was able to experience practicing medicine abroad when he participated in an International Medical Mission in the Dominican Republic in 2009.

Now, he says he feels fortunate to be back in Colorado where he grew up and working with the local community.

In his free time, Dr. Schnell says he enjoys spending time with his wife and three young daughters — getting outdoors and hiking and exploring the state. He’s a snowboarder and also likes to ski and golf.

“After being gone for so long to do all my medical training, it’s really a blessing to move back to Colorado,” Dr. Schnell says.

One of his favorite ways to unwind we’ll be to go to his folks’ ranch, and put his kids on horses and let them ride, with the gorgeous mountain views in the backdrop. “It’s a nice reminder of what a beautiful state we have,” he says.
